SERWAA AMIHERE APOLOGISES TO PRESEC COMMUNITY OVER ‘HOMOSEXUAL BREEDING GROUND’ COMMENT

Broadcast journalist and lawyer Serwaa Amihere has apologised in public after receiving a lot of criticism for remarks she allegedly made that called Presbyterian Boys’ Senior High School (PRESEC), Legon, a “breeding ground for homosexuals.”

The apology comes after PRESEC issued a strongly worded statement denouncing the comments as untrue, careless, and extremely disrespectful and cautioning against stigmatizing the school’s students.

In her apologies, Ms. Amihere acknowledged the hurt and concern her remarks had caused among former students, parents, and the general public while attempting to disassociate herself from any intention to disparage the institution or its pupils.

“I apologise to everyone who has felt slighted by the comments, especially the PRESEC community and the PRESECANS. I apologise, and I assure you that it won’t happen again,” she said.

Her response seems to be an attempt to ease the tensions that arose when the comments went viral and caused the school and alumni organizations to react strongly.

While some opponents said that the remarks unfairly labelled kids and put young people at risk of discrimination and mockery, others disagreed, arguing that it was just casual banter amongst secondary schools with no malicious intent.

The management of PRESEC categorically refuted the description in a previous statement dated January 17, 2026, emphasizing that the school is a Presbyterian mission institution built on academic quality, discipline, and Christian values.

The school described the remarks as an irresponsible generalization that intends to stigmatize an institution known for generating national leaders in public service, science, business, and civic life. The school claimed that such claims harm its legacy and the integrity of its students.

The administration also cautioned that such remarks could damage students’ emotional well-being and undermine public trust in the school’s ethical and academic principles.
