Ghanaian dancehall artist Shatta Wale recently took a playful jab at fellow musician Sarkodie, describing his style as “lawyer-like” during his appearance on the Rants, Bants, and Confessions podcast. Shatta, known for his bold opinions, humorously noted that whenever he looks at Sarkodie, he envisions him as a lawyer rather than a rapper.
“If you sat Sarkodie and me down with an astrologer to read our stars, I bet they’d see law in Sarkodie’s,” Shatta Wale joked. “When I look at him, my eyes see him like a lawyer.”
The podcast’s co-host, Gisela Amponsah, joined in on the conversation, suggesting that musicians often dress according to their brand. “Sarkodie is a rapper, so maybe he’s mirroring Jay-Z,” she said, pointing to the American hip-hop mogul’s polished image.
Shatta Wale, however, argued that Sarkodie’s style strays too far from traditional hip-hop aesthetics. “People here have made Sarkodie feel like he’s Jay-Z. As a rapper, dress like you’re from the streets. In America, every rapper’s dream is to get that first chain before a car,” he added, hinting that Sarkodie’s polished appearance lacks the rugged style typical of rap culture.
“If you’re a rapper dress like a rapper” he concluded.
Known for his outspokenness, Shatta’s comments sparked a lively debate online, with fans weighing in on whether Sarkodie’s style aligns with his branding as a rapper. For now, it seems Shatta is in no rush to tone down his candid assessments of his peers in the Ghanaian music industry.
