Ghanaian actor Don Little, whose real name is Stephen Atangah, has urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, to tackle the disrespectful behavior exhibited by certain police officers towards him.
Talking openly about his encounters, the small actor shared his annoyance with how some police officers treat him, calling on the IGP to step in and make sure that the officers behave professionally and respectfully.
Don Little, famous for his appearances in many Ghanaian movies, disclosed that he had faced disrespectful and dismissive behavior from police officers several times.
He described situations in which he felt disrespected and dismissed, linking this behaviour to his physical size and fame.
The actor recounted a situation with a police officer who doubted his driving skills because of his height, causing him concern and calling for a change in perspective.
“I encountered a police officer who remarked that if not for the ineffectiveness of the laws, I wouldn’t be driving. Am I a monkey or a hunchback? We are all human and should respect one another. We cooperate with you, so when you stop someone, please speak to them politely.
“Abroad, policemen are very respectful, but here in Ghana, their attitude is quite terrible and needs improvement. Some officers act as if they will never retire. Dampare, I implore you to address your officers. One spoiled maize can spoil the rest. Currently, many policemen are corrupt. This isn’t about hatred,” he said in a video posted by One Ghana TV on their YouTube channel.
