The Speaker made this pledge during a visit by the Ghana National Council of Private Schools (GNACOPS), who called on him to support efforts in fostering peace before, during, and after the elections.
The GNACOPS delegation, comprised of teachers and students from various private schools, was led by the council’s national executive director, Obento Nana Kwasi Gyetuah. The group appealed to Speaker Bagbin to use his influence to champion unity during this critical period in Ghana’s democratic journey. They commended him for his leadership and dedication to promoting peaceful coexistence, which they praised as a cornerstone of a thriving democratic society.
“I’m more than committed to the peace of this nation,” Speaker Bagbin affirmed, expressing confidence in the conduct of free, fair, and peaceful elections. He highlighted various initiatives, including a recent seminar in Tamale as part of the 30-year anniversary of Ghana’s parliamentary democracy, aimed at fostering national unity. The Speaker also mentioned the “Democracy Cup,” a football tournament intended to leverage Ghanaians’ love for the sport as a means of spreading the message of peace.
Speaker Bagbin congratulated GNACOPS for instilling the value of peace in young learners, recognizing their role as future leaders in upholding Ghana’s democratic stability.
