The parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has leveled accusations against his opponent, Lydia Seyram Alhassan, claiming she is engaging in voter inducement during the special voting exercise.
Dumelo alleged that the incumbent Member of Parliament for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was distributing items to security and media personnel at the Legon Police Station polling station to influence their votes.
Speaking to Citi News, an agitated Dumelo expressed his frustration, labeling the act as a violation of electoral laws. “Lydia is sharing items to people who have not voted yet, and she is giving things to those in line, which is unacceptable. What kind of behavior is this? If she wants to play this dirty game, I will respond in kind and give her a showdown today,” he declared.
The special voting exercise, designed to allow media personnel, security agencies, and electoral officials to cast their votes ahead of the general elections, has so far been under heavy scrutiny as candidates and observers monitor for irregularities.
Neither Lydia Alhassan nor her campaign team has responded to the allegations at the time of publication. The Electoral Commission is yet to comment on the matter as tensions continue to rise in the constituency.
