Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the appointed Minister of State for Government Communications, has expressed disappointment over the poor condition of sports in Ghana, calling it “dead.”
Addressing the difficulties facing Ghanaian sports, Ofosu Kwakye openly pointed out the poor performances of national teams, especially the Black Stars, and the decreasing enthusiasm of Ghanaians for the sport.
The Black Stars, formerly a symbol of great national pride, have faced challenges in fulfilling expectations. The team, a four-time African champion, recently ended last in Group F and did not qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
This disappointing performance has discouraged fans, further reducing their excitement for the sport.
Sharing his displeasure on TV3, Ofosu Kwakye highlighted the gap between supporters and local football teams, including Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko.
Although they are historically significant in the Ghana Premier League, their present condition is quite disappointing.
“These days, I claim I support Hearts of Oak, but I don’t even know one player from the club, nor do I know one player from Asante Kotoko.
Sports is essentially dead in this country, and even rekindling public interest to support national teams has become difficult.” he lamented.
