SPORTS MINISTER REVEALS GH₵20 MILLION LOAN INJECTED INTO GHANA PREMIER LEAGUE
Kofi Adams has confirmed the government secured a substantial loan to fund clubs this season, clarifying the financial arrangement previously denied by the Ghana Football Association.

The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has disclosed that the government secured a GH₵20 million loan to financially support the ongoing Ghana Premier League season.
The admission confirms long-standing speculation about the state’s direct involvement in the league’s funding. Before the season commenced, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced that each of the 18 Premier League clubs would receive one million cedis for their preparations, attributing the funds to a broadcast rights deal with Adesa Productions. At the time, the GFA denied any direct government financial contribution.
However, speaking on Peace FM, Minister Adams set the record straight. “We took a loan of 20 million cedis from the bank as an investment into the Ghana Premier League,” he stated. “We are working with corporate institutions to pay back this loan as soon as possible.”
This confirmation reveals the government’s direct role in backing the domestic league this season, a move aimed at boosting its competitiveness and overall commercial appeal.
The 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season is currently underway, with Aduana FC leading the table and giants like Asante Kotoko remaining unbeaten and poised to challenge for the top spot. The GH₵20 million injection is intended to provide a stable financial foundation for clubs, though the minister’s comments indicate the government is seeking private partnerships to service the debt.
