STATUE HONORING FORMER PRESIDENT AKUFO-ADDO AT EFFIA NKWANTA TOPPLED IN ACT OF VANDALISM

The statue of former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, installed at the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital roundabout in Sekondi, Western Region, has been destroyed in a second act of vandalism.

Unveiled to honor Akufo-Addo’s contributions during his tenure, particularly his administration’s efforts to improve healthcare and infrastructure, the statue has faced repeated attacks.

The first incident occurred on December 16, 2024, when unknown individuals damaged the statue’s leg. While authorities swiftly repaired the monument, no arrests were made, and the motives behind the attack remain unclear.

This latest act of vandalism, which left the statue entirely toppled, happened less than a week after Akufo-Addo left office as president. The monument had stood as a symbol of his administration’s commitment to expanding access to medical care and resources in underserved regions.

Placed near the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, the statue served as a visual reminder of the initiatives carried out under his leadership to advance healthcare in the Western Region.

Authorities have yet to identify those responsible for the destruction, sparking concerns about the security of public monuments and the respect for symbols of national leadership.
