Well-known Ghanaian preacher Pastor Oduro has issued a strong message to women, encouraging them to refrain from cooking, cleaning, and doing household tasks for men they are not wed to.
He thinks these behaviours, while deeply rooted in Ghanaian culture, frequently result in women being undervalued within relationships.
In Ghana, it is typical for women to assume household responsibilities in relationships, under the impression that these services will demonstrate their worth as prospective wives and encourage men to marry them.
Preparing meals, tidying up, and even doing laundry for a boyfriend are viewed as expressions of affection and devotion. Nonetheless, Pastor Oduro cautions that this societal norm could yield a contrary outcome.
He explained that men frequently grow complacent when they enjoy marital privileges without entering into marriage.
Instead of feeling driven to formalize their relationship, they might consider these actions as commonplace, postponing or potentially evading marriage completely.
“Ladies, stop playing the role of a wife to a man who has not married you. When you do everything for him, he has no incentive to marry you. Why will he pay for the cow when he is getting the milk for free?” Pastor Oduro stated during a recent sermon.
