SUPREME COURT SETS JANUARY 28 TO RULE ON KPANDAI MP’S ELECTION ANNULMENT CHALLENGE
The Supreme Court has scheduled Wednesday, January 28, 2026, to deliver its judgment on a case seeking to overturn the annulment of the Kpandai parliamentary election result.

The case was brought before the apex court by lawyers for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Matthew Nyindam, whose election as Member of Parliament for Kpandai was nullified by the Tamale High Court. The High Court’s decision followed a successful election petition filed by his opponent, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Daniel Nsala Wakpal.
Nyindam’s legal team is urging the Supreme Court to quash the High Court’s ruling on two main grounds. They contend that the petition by the NDC candidate was filed after the 21-day statutory deadline permitted for challenging election results. Secondly, they argue that the Tamale High Court judge lacked the proper jurisdiction to hear the petition in the first instance.
The Supreme Court’s ruling is final. A decision in favor of MP Matthew Nyindam would reinstate him as the legitimate MP for the constituency. However, if the court dismisses his application and upholds the High Court’s annulment, the Electoral Commission will be compelled to conduct a fresh parliamentary election in the Kpandai constituency.
All parties and the electorate await the court’s decision on January 28 to bring finality to the contest.
