SUSPECTED ROBBER ESCAPES POLICE CUSTODY AFTER REQUESTING TO USE WASHROOM

The police have arrested three suspected robbers who allegedly attacked passengers at Mallam Junction in the early hours of Thursday, 16th October 2025.
However, one of the suspects managed to escape from custody after requesting to use the washroom.
The officer who escorted him has since been invited for questioning as part of ongoing internal investigations.
A statement released by the Ghana Police Service reads;
1. The Amanfro District Police Command under the Weija Division has arrested three suspected robbers who allegedly attacked passengers at Mallam Junction in the early hours of Thursday, 16th October 2025.
2. Acting on intelligence, a Police team from the Amanfro District proceeded to the location, where four men were reportedly robbing passengers. Upon seeing the Police, the suspects attempted to flee, but three of them, identified as Stephen Amoani, aged 42, Osei Antwi, aged 30, and Kwame Mike, were arrested. One other suspect, identified as Kofi Sammy, who was wielding a pump-action gun, managed to escape.
3. A search conducted led to the retrieval of a cutlass concealed at the back of suspect Osei Antwi, a black Honda CR-V with trade plate number DV 3145-2025, three yellow gallons of akpeteshie, a bag containing GHC12,055, and three mobile phones: a Samsung A05, an iPhone 16, and an Itel Android phone, all believed to be stolen items.
4. However, during detention, suspect Kwame Mike escaped custody after requesting to use the washroom. The officer who escorted him has since been invited for questioning as part of ongoing administrative inquiries.
5. On 20th October 2025, the accused persons, Stephen Amoani and Osei Antwi, were arraigned before the Weija Circuit Court. The facts and charges were read and explained to them in the Twi language, which they understood, and both pleaded not guilty. They were remanded into Police custody to reappear on 10th November 2025.
