D-LEVY IMPLEMENTATION BEGINS TODAY, PETROL PRICE RISES TO GH¢12.59
Ghanaians are waking up to higher fuel prices today, Wednesday, July 16, 2025, as the new GH¢1 energy sector levy, popularly known as the D-Levy, officially takes effect. The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has begun implementing the levy under the Energy Sector Levies (Amendment) Act 1141, aiming to generate funds to tackle the country’s energy sector debt, which now exceeds US$3 billion.
With the new D-Levy, motorists are paying an additional GH¢1 per litre for both petrol and diesel at the pump. Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices have also seen a marginal increase.
Market checks by NKONKONSA.com Business as of 8:00 AM revealed that leading fuel stations nationwide have already reflected the new prices Star Oil is selling Super petrol at GH¢12.59 and diesel at GH¢13.99, representing a 14.6% increase from the first pricing window of July. Goil’s prices stand at GH¢12.88 for petrol and GH¢14.38 for diesel.
The government has defended the levy, stating it is a critical measure to stabilize the energy sector and prevent future power crises. The rollout follows weeks of consultation after the original June 16 implementation date was postponed for additional stakeholder engagement.
