I’LL ESTABLISH PUBLIC UNIVERSITY IN AHAFO REGION TO TRAIN STUDENTS IN AGRICULTURE – President Mahama
President John Dramani Mahama has announced that a public university will be established in the Ahafo Region to train students in agriculture, natural resources, and health sciences.
He made the announcement on Saturday, May 31, 2025, during a stop in Goaso as part of his nationwide “Thank You” tour following the 2024 general elections.
The planned university will be the first in the region.
The goal, according to President Mahama, is to increase access to higher education while training students for occupations that complement the region’s resource-based and agricultural economy.
“This university will offer quality education in agriculture, natural resources, and health sciences,” Mr Mahama said.
He clarified that the initiative is a component of the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) government’s endeavor to enhance educational opportunities in underserved regions of the nation.
Additionally, Mr. Mahama announced that certain Ahafo nursing and midwifery training institutes would be transformed into degree-granting establishments.
In order to assist academic work, he noted, buses would still be distributed to senior high schools and health training institutes.
It is anticipated that the university project will lessen the burden on local students who frequently need to travel to other regions of the nation in order to pursue postsecondary education, particularly in subjects linked to science.
