Artiste manager, Bullgod has offered his thoughts on the subject of artists’ physical and mental well-being as well as the function of talent managers.
Instead of depending on their managers to take care of everything for them, he believes that artists should be their own managers and take charge of their health.
During an appearance on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z program, Bullgod—real name Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson—disputed a previous statement made by George Mensah Britton, the manager of Afrobeats artist Camidoh, claiming that talent managers have not generally done a good job of looking out for the health of their clients.
He counselled talent managers to be more mindful of the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of their artists, saying that managers must do so.
Bullgod countered that managers should support artists on a professional, not a medical, level.
He continued by saying that managers cannot be expected to continuously monitor the well-being of their artists because they have their issues to attend to.
“What I always tell my client is, ‘You are your first manager and you are responsible for yourself’. Nobody should come and tell you, ‘Do this, do that’.
“You, as an artiste are responsible for your health. We, as managers, worry about our clients. But my point is that our artistes have to be the first managers of themselves. Your manager should not call you to ask if you’ve eaten,” he said.
