TAMALE TEACHING HOSPITAL: CEO SACKED, HEALTH MINISTER INVESTIGATES EQUIPMENT ISSUES

President John Dramani Mahama has dismissed Dr. Adam Atiku, Chief Executive Officer of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), after claims of negligence linked to a recent patient’s death in the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Ward.

The termination occurs amid rising worries about the worsening condition of healthcare provision at the establishment, highlighted by numerous accounts of inoperative crucial medical devices.

The President’s choice comes after a surprise visit to TTH by Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh on Tuesday, April 22nd. The visit formed a component of a larger evaluation of healthcare issues in the Northern Region.

During his visit, Minister Akandoh showed serious worry about the number of unused medical machines, even with proof of payments to suppliers, suggesting possible systemic problems in the hospital’s procurement and upkeep processes.

Compounding the hospital’s operational difficulties is the persistent water crisis in Tamale, which Minister Akandoh noted as a critical regional concern that necessitates immediate presidential action.

He highlighted the significant effect of water scarcity on the hospital’s capacity to provide essential services.

In response to the urgent requirement to tackle the equipment crisis, Minister Akandoh indicated that any measures implemented by the Ministry of Health would be directed by the priorities established by the hospital’s administration.

He emphasised the significance of teamwork to guarantee successful outcomes.

In spite of the ongoing difficulties, Minister Akandoh encouraged locals to keep using the hospital’s services, assuring them of the government’s dedication to enhancing healthcare delivery.

When we finish with them, we will all think through it, because I cannot do it all alone, I have to involve them, and we are thinking through it together. Everybody should remain calm and let us continue to patronize the facility ,” he stated.
