The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, expressed disappointment over the conduct of lawmakers in response to complaints from some members of the public.
The Speaker of the Legislature has recommended that members conduct themselves in a way that will garner public approval.
This refers to the way some people perceive the behavior of MPs, which he believes is not ideal.
Addressing the MPs in Parliament on Tuesday, July 09, 2024, the Speaker mentioned that according to public feedback, the behavior of MPs resembles that of kindergarten children.
“Some of you have complained to me that you meet some of these security personnel and some other officials and when you say ‘I am a member of Parliament’, the response you get is that and so what?
“I think that this problem is from how we conduct ourselves. Will they ever tell a judge or a minister ‘and so what’? Why is it that they say that to Members of Parliament? We need to look at it first,” he said in addition.
The Speaker advised the MPs to be cautious about their behavior as leaders of the State so they can earn the respect of the people.
He warned parliament members to be careful with their behavior and to act as leaders of the country.
He also urged the legislators to not treat their responsibility casually.
