Renowned Ghanaian musician Kwabena Kwabena has expressed his disappointment over how the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has treated him over the years. According to the celebrated highlife artist, his contribution to the party, particularly through a song he produced, has not been met with the respect or acknowledgment he deserves.
Speaking in an interview on Accra-based OKAY FM, Kwabena Kwabena revealed that the NPP has repeatedly used his music without seeking his consent. He alleged that they often modify the song to suit their purposes without informing him, a practice he finds disrespectful.
“I don’t like to talk about certain things, but the NPP has taken me for a ride for a very long time,” he stated. “They did it again; without my consent, they took the music, went to the studio, and cut it to suit their purpose without involving me. When they were done, they didn’t even inform me.”
The musician lamented that the party’s actions have created a public misconception about his political affiliations. “People still think I’m NPP because of what they do, and that’s unfair to me,” he added.
Kwabena Kwabena’s comments shed light on the challenges artists face when their creative works are used in political campaigns without proper authorization or recognition. His remarks have sparked conversations about intellectual property rights and the treatment of creatives in the political space.
The NPP has yet to respond to the allegations.
