THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH GEORGE FLOYD MEMORIAL SERVICE IN GHANA – Captain Planet

Ghanaian rapper and member of music group 4×4, Captain Planet, has believes there is nothing wrong with the George Floyd memorial serviced organised by Ghana’s Ministry of Tourism, Art and Culture.

On Friday, 5 June 2020, the Ministry, in partnership with the Ghana Tourism Authority, Office of Diaspora Affairs and the Diaspora African Forum organised a wreath-laying ceremony at the W. E. B. Du Bois Memorial Centre for Pan-African Culture in honour of the 46-year-old African American who was killed by a shite cop who knelt on his neck for almost nine minutes.

Some Ghanaians, such as artiste manager Bulldog and musician A Plus, damned the government for the act when, according to them, many Ghanaians have fallen through similar instances and nothing had been done in their memory.

Reacting to this on Saturday Night Life on Class91.3FM on Saturday, 6 June 2020, Captain Planet told show hosts Faisal Carter and Lharley Lartey that: “It’s not a bad thing, from my perspective”.

He explained: “I think because we all believe that the slave trade started from Ghana, so, mostly, we see Black Americans as Ghanaians; that’s how I get it because slave trade started from Ghana, we see all black people as Ghanaians, so, it’s cool, it’s OK, it wasn’t a big budget”.

Speaking about those who criticised the event, Captain Planet noted: “That’s their opinion. You don’t expect everyone to arrive at a point and come out with the same results. Some people will disagree and others will agree. So, for me, I don’t think it is anything bad and it wasn’t anything big. I’m just praying that they will not come out with a big budget that’s all…”
