A circuit court in Accra has remanded a few of the protesters in Accra who were involved in unlawful activities during the demonstration.
These 39 protesters will remain in police and prison custody until their next court appearance in October.
Ghanaians on social media criticized the police for their treatment of protesters demonstrating against unauthorized mining.
Lydia Forson shared on social media her disbelief at the mistreatment of people fighting for a noble cause.
She pointed out to the President his call for Ghanaians to actively participate as citizens, not just as bystanders.
