THIS IS A NATIONAL TRAGEDY – Dr. Bawumia Mourns Helicopter Crash Victims

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has paid solemn tribute to the eight Ghanaians who perished in Wednesday’s military helicopter crash, describing the incident as a devastating loss for the entire nation.

Speaking at the Ceremonial Gardens of the Presidency on Friday, August 8, where he laid a wreath and lit a candle in their memory, Dr. Bawumia emphasised that the grief transcends political lines.

“This is a national tragedy. Eight public officials on official duty… they were in the service of this country when they had this tragic accident, and they all lost their lives,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia revealed that he had begun visiting the families of the deceased to offer his condolences, noting that he had already met with three of the bereaved households and would continue his visits the following day.

He extended sympathies to President John Mahama, the Ghana Armed Forces, and all affected families, calling the crash “a very, very painful loss” for Ghana.

The former Vice President urged unity in mourning, stressing that the tragedy should not be seen through a partisan lens.

“This is not a partisan issue, this is a national tragedy. You should expect full participation from the New Patriotic Party because this is our national duty. We will fully participate,” he affirmed.
