Media personality, Bridget Otoo has expressed her firm opposition to NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s recent pledge to provide easier access to smartphones for Ghanaians by implementing a credit system.
During a campaign event in the Savannah Region, Dr. Bawumia promised to improve Ghanaians’ access to smartphones if elected president.
He proposed a strategy to partner with phone makers to offer smartphones on a credit system, enabling people to make monthly payments as low as one or two cedis.
The response to his promise, both online and offline, was varied, with Bridget Otoo also weighing in.
Bridget Otoo tweeted on July 23, 2024, highlighting the unfeasibility of the suggestion, noting that it would require an extended period for repayment at those interest rates.
“4500 cedis means it would take 37 years to finish paying. Does it make sense to him?”
She went on to condemn the plan for being disrespectful to voters, noting that it also fails to recognize their intelligence.
“This is not even desperation but just disrespectful to think your voters are stupid,” she added
