Renowned Reggae Dancehall artiste, Stonebwoy explained why he does not throw money at fans during his shows.
He clarified that even though gifting money to fans can be perceived as a kind gesture, it frequently doesn’t fulfill the intended goal of generosity, as certain people may receive a larger sum than others.
He also mentioned that the hurry to grab the money frequently leads to injuries, harming the intended positive impact.
Stonebwoy mentioned that he likes to personally hand out money to people at his shows to prevent offending anyone.
“I don’t like throwing money at fans, but we are Ghanaians, so sometimes our perspectives differ. I think it’s disrespectful. If I throw money into the crowd, one person could get more than the others. So, I prefer giving it to people individually when the time is right rather than throwing it. Even then, many people suffer casualties that we don’t hear about.
“As we throw money from a convoy, people get injured all the time. People accuse me of not throwing money, but it’s for these reasons. So, I time it and give the money at the right moment. It’s good to throw money at fans, but it doesn’t really fulfill the purpose of giving,” he said in Twi in a video shared on Instagram by aba.the.great.
Stonebwoy is the reigning 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards Artiste of the Year and has won the award on two occasions.
