The one-week commemoration for Akua Donkor, GFP flagbearer, took place on November 28, 2024, in Ejuratia, her hometown located in the Afigya Kwabre South District of the Ashanti Region.
In spite of being well-known in Ghanaian politics, the event did not attract any top politicians, celebrities, or public figures.
Akua Donkor, who died on October 28, 2024, was a well-known figure in Ghanaian politics, recognized for her courage and distinct leadership style. Her relatives anticipated a large number of important individuals coming to honor her life and accomplishments.
Nevertheless, their expectations were shattered when the lack of those individuals caused disappointment among the audience.
The gathering, with family members, friends, and a few local leaders present, was a calm and serious event. Online, videos and pictures capturing the event have been shared, showcasing the elegantly decorated location.
It is reported that Betty Mould-Iddrisu, a former Minister for Education of Ghana attended Akua Donkor’s One-week observation.
However, the lack of prominent figures has sparked discussions on social media, with numerous people questioning the extent of support from Ghana’s political and celebrity communities during times of grief.
It is worth noting that the sole prominent political leader in attendance was Betty Mould Iddrisu from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who has personal connections with the town.
