TOURISM MINISTER CONFIRMS AFRONATION TO TAKE PLACE IN GHANA THIS DECEMBER

The Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, Dr. Awal Mohammed has indicated that the government’s relationship with Afro Nation is still in place, and the event will actually take place in Ghana this year.

At an editors’ forum on August 14, 2023, in Accra, he made this declaration. He added that in order to secure a fruitful partnership, the government is actively having negotiations with the event organizers.

Dr. Awal Mohammed stressed that the festival has not been moved from Ghana and dispelled reports that it would be moved to Lagos, Nigeria, this year.

He said that following a recent meeting with the organizers when specific demands were discussed, efforts are being made to cooperate in order to accommodate those objectives.

The minister showed hope when asked about the festival’s future in Ghana, saying that it is quite likely that Afro Nation will be held in Ghana not just this year but also for the following three years.

With Event Horizon Entertainment Limited, the Ghanaian government had earlier signed a five-year contract to hold the Afro Nation Festival there.

The inaugural event, which featured artists from Africa and the diaspora, was held in Accra in December 2019. Concerns were expressed by the public when the festival’s location shifted from Ghana to Nigeria the previous year.

The government’s commitment to preserving its relationship with Afro Nation and to showcasing the festival’s colourful and diversified cultural celebration in Ghana is underscored by Dr. Awal Mohammed’s promise.
