The government of the United States has provided 14 Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) as part of continuing initiatives to strengthen Ghana’s security systems and enhance bilateral defense collaboration.
The formal handover event occurred at the 153 Armoured Regiment, Abuga Square, Burma Camp, where the U.S. Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Virginia Palmer, officially delivered the military vehicles to Ghanaian representatives.
Ambassador Palmer emphasised the strategic significance of the donation, especially in safeguarding Ghana’s northern borders, which are increasingly endangered by instability in the Sahel region.
She reiterated the U.S. dedication to assisting Ghana through military collaborations, capacity enhancement programs, and the supply of crucial defense supplies.
Accepting the equipment for the Ghana Armed Forces, Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah expressed deep appreciation to the U.S. government and its citizens for their ongoing support to peace and security.
He guaranteed that the armored vehicles would be properly maintained and used to achieve maximum operational efficiency and durability.
This recent contribution is viewed as a considerable enhancement to Ghana’s peacekeeping and counterterrorism efforts, particularly as regional security challenges persist in changing.
