The Appeals Board of the University of Ghana has unanimously overturned the disqualification of Ghanaian musicians, Maradona Adjei Yeboah and Emmanuel Owusu Amponsah from the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) presidential election.
Mr Yeboah, popularly known as Guru, was disqualified by the University of Ghana’s Students’ Representative Council (SRC) from contesting the student body’s presidential election.
As per the SRC, Guru did not meet the requirements to run for the position.
Following a legal battle, the judicial panel verified the legitimacy of the reasons for disqualification. Therefore, the musician is unable to participate in the election.
Upon receiving the news, the Vice Dean directed for the inclusion of the two candidates’ names and their chosen partners on the presidential candidates’ roster.
“You are further, directed to carry out the balloting for all the SRC candidates vetted by the vetting committee on Monday (September 16, 2024), between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 noon at the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs (ODSA).”
“You are to immediately communicate this to all the candidates to assemble at the premises of the ODSA for the balloting, “ the September 15 letter read.
The letter also directed the school’s Electoral Commission to provide the list of candidates and their positions to the University of Ghana’s Computer Services (UGCS) after balloting.
“This is to enable the UGCS to make the necessary preparations for voting to take place on a date to be agreed with candidates (before or after the balloting) but the date so agreed should not be later than Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024,” the letter added.
