UNEMPLOYED TEACHERS REJECT 6,100 RECRUITMENT PLAN, DEMAND JOBS FOR ALL GRADUATES
The coalition, representing over 17,000 jobless trained teachers, has described the government's recruitment figure as insufficient and is threatening further protests if a clear employment roadmap is not provided.

The Coalition of Unemployed Trained Teachers has outrightly rejected the government’s plan to recruit 6,100 teachers, labeling it as a disappointing and inadequate measure that fails to address the scale of the unemployment crisis among graduates.
In a statement released on Thursday, November 20, the coalition expressed deep frustration with the announcement made by Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, arguing that it has only intensified anxiety among the over 17,000 College of Education graduates it represents.
“We strongly believe that this approach falls short of our expectations,” the coalition stated. “Every qualified graduate deserves a chance to serve, and we demand that the Minister prioritises our employment.”
The group, which held a peaceful demonstration on Wednesday, criticized the lack of transparency in the selection process. They questioned whether the recruitment would be based on fair, merit-based protocols or “rough tactics,” and demanded a clear roadmap for how and when all qualified graduates would be absorbed into the educational sector.
Describing the situation as unprecedented in Ghana’s teacher training history, the coalition also corrected the Minister’s description of them as “striking teachers,” clarifying that they are, in fact, unemployed graduates seeking their first postings.
Issuing a stern ultimatum, the coalition threatened to return to the streets in the next two weeks if the Ministry of Education fails to provide a transparent and comprehensive plan for the mass recruitment of all 2023 College of Education graduates.
