Sean “Diddy” Combs, a beleaguered rapper and hip-hop mogul was detained at a New York City hotel on Monday evening in connection with a federal sex trafficking probe, authorities reported.
The 54-year-old celebrity willingly went to New York City in expectation of being arrested on federal charges based on a grand jury indictment, as stated by prosecutors and sources.
Combs, who was seen strolling in Manhattan with his son Christian “King” Combs, was arrested at the Park Hyatt New York by Homeland Security Investigations, known for handling sex trafficking cases, according to sources.
Monday, the charges Combs is facing were not immediately evident. He is anticipated to appear in Manhattan federal court Tuesday morning for arraignment, when the charges in the indictment will be revealed.
“Earlier this evening, federal agents arrested Sean Combs, based on a sealed indictment filed by the SDNY,” Damian Williams, the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, said in a statement. “We expect to move to unseal the indictment in the morning and will have more to say at that time.”
During his peak as a producer for famous hip hop artists in the 1990s and 2000s, Combs has faced allegations of numerous incidents involving sexual and physical abuse. Artists he worked with include Mary K. Blige, Usher, Lil Kim, and the late Biggie Smalls.
In a lawsuit filed against him last November, he was initially accused of a long-term history of domestic and sexual abuse, as well as allegations of trafficking, towards his ex-girlfriend and R&B artist Cassie Ventura.
