MAN’S EAR SEVERED IN VIOLENT CLASH BETWEEN NPP AND NDC AT GOMOA WEST, CHIEFS FLEE SCENE

A violent confrontation between members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Gomoa West in the Central Region turned bloody when one man had his ear severed during the altercation. The incident occurred at the commissioning of earth-moving equipment under the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), plunging the event into chaos.

Traditional leaders, including the Presidents of the Gomoa Akyempim and Gomoa Assin Traditional Councils, were present to oversee the ceremony. However, they fled the scene as tensions escalated between party supporters.

According to Bismark Nkum, the District Chief Executive and NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Gomoa West, the violence broke out after the arrival of Gomoa West MP, Richard Gyan-Mensah, accompanied by agitated NDC members. Nkum claimed that the MP disrupted the event and allegedly wielded weapons, including a gun, chains, and a cutlass.

Nkum further alleged that one of the trained equipment operators was struck by the MP. “A whole MP arrived here with a pistol in the full glare of the police, hitting one of the operators,” he stated during an interview with Adom News. He called on the police to investigate whether the weapon was licensed and if the MP had the authority to brandish it.

In contrast, Richard Gyan-Mensah denied the allegations, asserting that if he had engaged in any violent acts, the police would have intervened.

The scuffle not only left one man severely injured, but also disrupted what was supposed to be a significant event for the district. Both parties continue to dispute the details of the confrontation, with investigations ongoing.
