ROSE YEBOAH MAKES HISTORY AS FIRST GHANAIAN TO QUALIFY FOR HIGH JUMP FINAL AT 2025 WORLD ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIPS IN TOKYO
Rose Amoanimaa Yeboah cleared 1.92 meters in Thursday’s qualifying round, earning her a spot in the women’s high jump final at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
With her achievement, Yeboah becomes the first athlete from Ghana to go to the championships’ individual event final since Margaret Simpson and Ignatius Gaisah in 2005. At the Helsinki edition, Simpson took home bronze in the women’s heptathlon while Gaisah took home silver in the men’s long jump.
Twelve competitors advanced to the qualification round after reaching the 1.92-meter automatic qualifying mark. Nicola Olyslagers and Eleanor Patterson from Australia, Yaroslava Mahuchikh and Yuliia Levchenko from Ukraine, Angelina Topić from Serbia, Morgan Lake from Great Britain, Michaela Hrubá from the Czech Republic, Maria Żodzik from Poland, Christina Honsel from Germany, and Yeboah from Ghana are among them.
The Olympic Stadium in Tokyo will host the final on Sunday, September 21.
