Tracy Sarkcess, the wife of award-winning Ghanaian rapper, Sarkodie, has reacted to reports of locked-up Global Fund commodities at the Tema Port.
The medical supplies that have been laying in containers at the Tema Port after they were delivered by Global Fund include AntiretroviraIDrugs, Treated Mosquito Nets, Medical Devices etc.
In a report by 3news, the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH) said the medical supplies which have been locked up at the Tema Port contain life-saving medications and health commodities whose extra delay at the port would have dire consequences.
This comes as a reminder to the government to fulfil its promise of getting the supplies cleared, having been locked up since August 2023.
In a press release issued by the Ministry of Health on Thursday, June 13, 2024, it said funds have been made available to clear the medication in two weeks.
Ernest Ortsin, an executive of Global Fund Ghana who is taken aback by this situation said this is the first time they are seeing anything like this anywhere in the world where commodities given to a country remain at the port forever for over a year.
Reacting to this on X, Tracy Sarkcess revealed that the government’s stake in the Tema Port is currently only 15% thus Ghanaians do not have a say in what happens at our port since 2014.
Tracy claims the Tema Port is owned by French billionaire, Bollore who owns 17 other ports in West Africa.
