“WE WILL BEGIN THE RENOVATION OF THE STATE BANQUET HALL THIS YEAR” – President Mahama Announces

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that renovation works on the State Banquet Hall will begin this year.

He noted the makeover is a part of measures to strengthen facilities for conferences, meetings, incentives, and exhibitions during his State of the Nation Address in Parliament on Friday, February 27, 2026.

“Ghana will also begin this year, the renovation of the State Banquet Hall which has been closed for a couple of years,” he said.

Presidential dinners, diplomatic receptions, and formal ceremonies are just a few of the high-profile national and international events that have historically taken place in the State Banquet Hall, which is part of the State House complex in Accra.

However, because of maintenance issues and structural issues, the plant has been shuttered for a few years.

The President also discussed initiatives to support new media and content production as sources of employment. He promised to act as a spokesperson for travel, culture, and the arts, emphasizing their capacity to spur economic expansion.

“In line with our new national effort to bring events and conferences, we are going to undertake the refurbishment of the Accra International Conference Centre to restore it to its iconic past as the country’s national and international conference venue. Commencement of work on the facility starts in the next few weeks,” he said.

At the Office of the Chief of Staff’s request, the center’s original contractors carried out a structural integrity evaluation and provided recommendations for the refurbishment, the President stated.

In order to establish Ghana as the premier hub for meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibits, and creative events in West Africa, he stated that the development of a suitable convention and creative event center would also start this year in collaboration with the private sector.

The President also revealed that the 2026 budget included ₵20 million for the Creative Arts Agency and ₵20 million for the National Film Authority.

In addition, it is anticipated that the National Theatre of Ghana will begin renovations in the next few weeks.
