WE WILL DEMONSTRATE AGAINST EC IF NDC’S REQUEST FOR FORENSIC AUDIT IS GRANTED – NPP

The NPP has warned that they will protest against the Electoral Commission if it agrees to NDC’s demand for a forensic audit of the temporary voters’ register.

The party’s General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Koduah, stated that the NPP believes it is hypocritical for the NDC to request a forensic audit of the provisional voters’ register by the EC without providing solid evidence.

On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, the National Democratic Congress organized a countrywide protest to pressure the Electoral Commission into agreeing to conduct a forensic audit of the provisional voters’ register for the upcoming 2024 general elections.

The NDC supported its request to the EC with a deadline of one week to take action. The party pointed out abnormalities and unauthorized tampering of the voter register in Pusiga in the Upper East region as a unique instance.

Despite the Electoral Commission studying the NDC’s petition for a quick response, the ruling New Patriotic Party has also intervened.

The party is confused as to why the NDC won’t provide the elections management body with evidence of the alleged register discrepancies, but they feel comforted by a demonstration.

Justin Frimpong Koduah, the NPP’s General Secretary, stated that the party’s followers all over the country will march in protest if the Electoral Commission bows to the NDC’s demands.

According to him, in 2015 the Electoral Commission assured political parties it can fulfill its constitutional responsibilities, so if it approves the NDC’s request, they will inquire about any changes..

“The NPP will also hit the streets to demonstrate against the Electoral Commission. Then it will also mean that the Electoral Commission is not consistent. Because in 2015, it is the same Electoral Commission told us that they are the body, they have the capacity to ensure that internally, they resolve issues. So, we will ask them, what has changed? ”
