WE WILL FILE AN APPEAL – Papa Shee after court ruling

The funeral committee chairman insists Daddy Lumba's family has authentic German marriage documents and will challenge the court's recognition of two spouses, while considering a March 2026 funeral date.

The family of late highlife legend Daddy Lumba will appeal the Kumasi High Court ruling that recognized both Akosua Serwaa and Priscilla Ofori Atta as lawful spouses of the musician, funeral committee chairman Evangelist Papa Shee announced Monday.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Papa Shee expressed the family’s dissatisfaction with the court’s decision, maintaining they possess original German documents proving Daddy Lumba was legally married to Akosua Serwaa.

“We are not satisfied with the court ruling. The judge is the only one saying the documents are not authentic. Both Daddy Lumba and Akosua Serwaa are German citizens, so the documents cannot be fake,” Papa Shee stated.

He revealed the family would pursue the appeal “for transparency” and to protect the musician’s legacy, adding that some family members prefer postponing the funeral until March 2026 to allow for proper planning, completion of the autopsy, and for all of Lumba’s children – some of whom are abroad or writing exams – to attend.

The Kumasi High Court’s ruling had legally recognized both women as spouses, permitting them to jointly perform widowhood rites. The planned appeal ensures the legal dispute over the musician’s marital status will continue alongside ongoing funeral preparations.
