New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has provided some perspectives on the just-ended 2024 elections.
During a discussion with party communicators after his loss in the 2024 presidential election, he expressed his thoughts on the election results and the difficulties encountered by the party.
Feeling both disappointed and enlightened, Bawumia recognized the fundamental reason for their defeat: a lack of voter participation from NPP supporters.
Bawumia’s remarks emphasize a vital element of the election campaign—the significance of grasping voter behavior.
Although the NPP engaged in extensive campaigning and believed they were close to winning, the unexpectedly low turnout from their supporters proved to be a setback.
The vice president recognized that the party’s effort was clear, yet there was an unmistakable gap on election day.
“So, at least you know where the problem is. And to solve the problem, you have to know what it is, so our people didn’t vote. That was the problem,” Bawumia told his party communicators monitored by mynewsgh.com
“The question now is why they didn’t vote, and that is a research question we are going to answer now.”
“I must say we worked very hard, and I am very proud of the communication team,” Bawumia continued. “We were working against their ownership of, or support from, key media houses. Isn’t it so?
Put that as a disadvantage in many ways in terms of communication. We had a lot of these key media houses who were not on our side.”
