Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has assured that his government will implement the “Buy Ghana First” policy to create jobs.
During his speech at the Borteyman Sports Complex, Dr. Bawumia spoke about his plans to generate employment once he becomes president. He mentioned that the “Buy Ghana First” policy will be enforced by law in both the public and private sectors.
“We’ll implement a new policy. We will use Government purchasing power to stimulate industrial expansion and business growth to create jobs by implementing the “Buy Ghana First” policy” Dr Bawumia explained.
He stated that this policy aims to guarantee that all items purchased in the public sector will consist only of goods and services made in Ghana.
He remembered his visit to the Volta Textile company in Juapong, where management expressed concern about textiles for schools and companies being imported into the country now.
The company expressed regret that schools and other companies they previously worked with to manufacture textiles no longer support local textiles.
Dr. Bawumia stated that this inspired and brought about the “Buy Ghana” policy. He elaborated on how it would lead to a rise in employment opportunities within the nation.
“We will back it with the law. So if the Ministry of Education is ordering uniforms for students, they will look inside the country, look for local textile companies, and local tailors and buy from Ghana first”, Dr Bawumia assured.
