WESTERN REGION COUNCIL OF STATE REP TO BUILD 50-BED CHILDREN’S WARD IN HONOUR OF LATE MOTHER
Dr Maxwell Boakye says project will strengthen paediatric care at Samartex Hospital

Council of State Member for the Western Region and Chief Executive Officer of Win Energy, Dr Maxwell Boakye, has announced plans to construct a 50-bed Children’s Ward at Samartex Hospital in Samreboi.
The project, he explained, is in fulfilment of a long-held wish of his late mother and is aimed at improving paediatric healthcare delivery across the Western Region.
Speaking at a sod-cutting ceremony to mark the commencement of the project, Dr Boakye described the initiative as deeply personal.
“This project is very personal to me. It represents a promise fulfilled in honour of my late mother’s passion for compassion and service to humanity,” he said.
The announcement comes one year after the passing of Maame Agnes Appiah, whom he described as a woman devoted to community welfare and the wellbeing of children.
According to Dr Boakye, the new children’s ward will provide a dedicated space and specialised care for young patients, easing pressure on the hospital’s existing infrastructure and addressing critical gaps in paediatric healthcare services in the area.
He noted that the facility will stand as a lasting tribute to his mother’s legacy of care, compassion and selfless service to humanity.
Community members and health officials who attended the ceremony welcomed the initiative, expressing optimism that the new ward would significantly improve healthcare outcomes for children and families in Samreboi and surrounding communities.
When completed, the 50-bed ward is expected to expand Samartex Hospital’s capacity and enhance the delivery of quality paediatric services in the Western Region.
