Comedian Derrick Kobina Bonney, widely known as DKB is facing criticism after releasing an advertisement in support of John Dramani Mahama’s 24-hour economy policy.
The sketch, meant to showcase Mahama’s famous idea of keeping businesses and banks running 24/7, has received backlash from different groups like the New Patriotic Party (NPP), a small faction of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and impartial onlookers.
DKB faced criticism for his comedic depiction of the 24-hour economy, with numerous people claiming he was spreading false information with a badly done sketch. Some spectators perceived the video as too basic, fearing it might give the wrong impression about the challenges of carrying out such a project.
The online debate over the ad, which claimed businesses and banks would operate around the clock, grew intense as critics pointed out its failure to consider the intricacies of the idea.
In reaction to the backlash, DKB addressed the negative comments on social media and issued an apology for any offense caused by the sketch.
In a candid and emotional post, he expressed his disappointment, saying, “Eii I make weak. My heart breaks brutal, May3 basaa! Herh Chale, it over me sef walaahi. Anyway, those of you enjoying insulting me over the skit, enjoy! It’s not your fault; it’s my fault. I take responsibility. It will be alright! Time will tell.”
