Legendary music producer and sound engineer, Appietus believes that the Ghanaian government headed by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is foolish to impose such a levy on his people who are in need.
“We will all utilize the digital platform for everyday transactions, and that is good. But I’m considering the timing”, Appietus told Agyemang on TV XYZ.
Appietus said that the present economic suffering is equivalent to a funeral celebration or mourning for Ghanaians, so the government should not impose such tax at this time.
The ETL was included in the Finance Minister’s 2022 budget statement delivered to Parliament last year.
The tax will be 1.75 percent on mobile money transactions. The projected E-Levy is expected to earn GHC 6.9 billion annually.
