The founder and head of the International God’s Way Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim, has cautioned his church followers against attending other churches for spiritual direction or prayers.
He asserts that every member of his church must remain loyal solely to it, or they will encounter severe repercussions from him.
He made this declaration during a sermon delivered on Sunday, 13 April.
“I don’t want to see any Abroso member going to another church for prayers, he declared in a widely circulated video.
“If a visitor comes and later leaves, that’s acceptable. But if a devoted member leaves for another church, there will be a spiritual problem between us. What exactly are you going there to look for?”
He also emphasised the seriousness of this “spiritual issue,” indicating that it might appear as spiritual assaults.
“If I catch any Abroso member attending another church, I will have a spiritual issue with you. Ask any elder what it means to have a spiritual problem with someone. I don’t understand why you keep going there. Is it for marriage? Financial support? Or medical reasons?”
The man of God explained that a church member may only look for help beyond their church during medical emergencies.
Bishop Obinim has experienced his share of controversies in Ghana. This caution has nevertheless garnered varied responses from Ghanaians.
