YOU’RE DICTATING TO A PRIVATE TV STATION WHO YOU LIKE AND DON’T LIKE – Prophet Oduro Chides Gov’t Over UTV

General Overseer of the Alabaster International Ministry, Prophet Dr. Kofi Oduro has finally addressed the discontinuation of his live broadcasts on United Television (UTV).

Previously, his Sunday services were regularly featured on UTV. However, these broadcasts abruptly ceased without any official explanation and were replaced with movies.

In September, there was speculation that a letter, purportedly from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), had directed the showrunners of the United Showbiz program to balance their political discussions, as they were perceived as overly critical of the current government. This move sparked a backlash from many who accused the government of suppressing media freedom in the country.

In response to these two developments, Prophet Oduro expressed his “shock” and disappointment. He lamented the ability of individuals to influence the content shown on media platforms and the potential impact on freedom of expression.

“I was shocked that a letter was written from the current government to UTV. You are dictating to a private TV station who you like and who you don’t like. So somebody can sit at home and be making instructions, “I don’t like this guy. I don’t like this guy,” he fumed.

Prophet Oduro wondered if his weekly show was removed from the air in a similar fashion.

“No wonder “Daa Nkwa Nsem” has been removed from Thursday afternoons and replaced with movies,” he said.

Additionally, Prophet Oduro shared an encounter where officials from a TV station said they were ready to offer him airtime for his broadcasts with the condition that he would not attack President Akufo-Addo or the government.

“I remember when a young man saw me; my team was trying to get a new contract with W3TV. The guy came from Movement TV and we were talking and he told me, we would love you to come on our network, but please never speak against President Akufo Addo and the Government of Ghana,” he said.
