Running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang stated that the NDC aims to gain the people’s mandate to govern the state due to the importance of enacting policies that will benefit traders and other workers in the informal sector.
She clarified that initiatives like setting up the Women’s Development Bank and creating specific policies for the informal sector will help the sector to flourish.
“You are the reason we are coming back to government to rescue this country from collapse. So our development plan is to ensure that you get the benefit of good governance…We shall still build the markets, the schools, hospitals and road as we did in the past, but this time we shall do more to directly impact informal sector workers like you traders,” she told a durbar of traders at the Winneba market in the Central Region last Friday.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang, a native of the Region, encouraged them to support the NDC in order to be saved from their current challenging circumstances, emphasizing that the region will receive its rightful portion of progress if the NDC gains control.
While she is in the Central Region canvassing support for the party, her boss, the Presidential candidate of the NDC, John Mahama, is in the Upper East Region camp.
