Maleek Basintale, the acting chief executive of Ghana’s Youth Employment Agency (YEA), has raised concerns about the growing issue of youth unemployment, describing it as a looming national security threat. Speaking on his first day in office, Basintale emphasized the need for immediate action to prevent the situation from escalating further.
He expressed a commitment to tackling unemployment during his tenure, stating, “It is my interest that at the end of four years, we should be able to reduce unemployment drastically. Unemployment is gradually becoming a national security threat in this country, and if we don’t take steps to mitigate the situation in the long run, we will all be affected.”
Basintale also highlighted his dedication to delivering impactful results that reflect positively on the government. He noted his desire to ensure his tenure contributes meaningfully to the legacy of President John Mahama. “My aim is to set the ball rolling. From today to my last day, I should be able to make John Mahama proud that he will say I appointed Maleek Basintale, and I’m proud of the record and that will add to the achievements of his government,” he remarked.
