50 GHANAIAN CITIZENS IN IRAN REFUSE TO LEAVE DESPTIE ISRAEL-IRAN WAR – Okaikwei Central MP Reveals

Nearly fifty Ghanaian citizens who are now living in Iran have turned down the government’s offer of evacuation, according to Patrick Yaw Boamah, the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central and a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament.

In the middle of the growing crisis between Israel and Iran, they declined the evacuation.

Although the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had initiated planning for the urgent evacuation of all Ghanaian citizens in Iran, the congressman told the media that many of them had shown a reluctance to leave the nation.

His remarks follow Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s announcement that the Ghanaian government was planning to withdraw its citizens from Iran.

Ablakwa claims that the choice was taken with the intention of protecting Ghanaian lives.

He added that because of the tensions between Israel and Iran, Ghana has shuttered its embassy in Tehran.

In a post on X, Ablakwa wrote, “The Mahama Administration has, in the interest of the protection of Ghanaian lives, decided to immediately evacuate Ghanaians living in Iran following an escalation of the Israel-Iran conflict.

To guarantee the safety of our embassy staff, Ghana’s embassy in Tehran has been closed with immediate effect”.

He added, “The evacuation through land borders covers all Ghanaian diplomats, students, professionals, and other compatriots.
