The Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has refuted claims that the government believes the E-levy will solve all of Ghana’s problems.
According to him, no government official has ever stated that.
The Ofoase Ayirebi lawmaker was responding to a questioner during a press conference held by Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta in Accra on Wednesday January 19, who based his inquiry on the assertion that the E-levy would solve all of Ghana’s problems.
“We have not stated that the E-levy will solve all of our problems,” the Ofoase Ayirebi lawmaker stated.
“The e-levy is one of several revenue measures designed to raise the resources necessary for the appropriation of approximately 145 billion. Therefore, it is critical to place that in context even before we get to the answers.”
Parliament is deeply divided over the E-levy proposal in the 2022 budget statement. The proposal has been rejected by opposition MPs.
