GOV’T IMPOSES HIGH IMPORT DUTY ON CARS ONLY TO AUCTION THEM CHEAPLY – Kumchacha

Nicholas Osei, the Founder and Leader of Heaven’s Gate Ministries, also known as Prophet Kumchacha has expressed his displeasure with Ghana’s substantial import tax on automobiles.

The outspoken social commentator attacked the pointlessness of charging foreign cars high amounts just to later sell them at auction for much less money.

Prophet Kumchacha lamented the terrible treatment that people at the ports endured in an interview with Amansan Krakye on Cape Coast’s Property FM

He lamented, “Ghanaians abroad may work hard for 15 to 20 years, saving their earnings to ship cars back to Ghana. However, the import duty on each of these cars amounts to about GH¢100,000. If the person cannot afford to pay this duty, the government seizes the cars and later auctions them at a very cheap price.”

Prophet Kumchacha found it frustrating and perplexing that people who had spent lot of money traveling abroad to buy these cars were unable to pay the import duties, which resulted in the government auctioning the cars off at prices that were significantly less than the imposed charge.
