THERE IS NO LOVE IN THE GOSPEL MUSIC INDUSTRY – Piesie Esther

Award-winning gospel artist, Piesie Esther has acknowledged the lack of love among individuals in the Ghanaian gospel music industry.

In an interview with Accra 100.5 FM, the winner of the Ghana Music Awards Europe (GMAE) 2023 Artiste of the Year revealed that her initial perception of the industry as a place filled with camaraderie and support had been shattered.

She explained that the absence of love and unity is not unique to the gospel music scene but is a common occurrence in any business venture.

“At first, I used to think there was love in the industry, but now that I am inside, I have come to realise that there is no love. But what I have discovered is, that’s the way it is in any business with a lot of people,” she expressed.

Piesie Esther attributed this phenomenon to the rivalry and competition among industry players, who often put on a facade of friendliness in public while harboring bitter rivalries underneath.

Using herself as an example, she mentioned that she had to maintain a cheerful demeanor with certain people in public, even though she did not genuinely care for them.

“There are times where you see a fellow gospel colleague and just want to pass by the person because you feel nothing for that person. But you just have to greet and smile with that person,” she said.
