EMPLOY POETS IN THE SONGWRITING PROCESS – Kwabena Kwabena To Musicians

Ghanaian highlife musician cum songwriter, Kwabena Kwabena, during an interview on Joy Prime, stressed the significance of incorporating poetry into music and advised fellow musicians to utilize this art form when creating their songs.

He highlighted that poets possess the skills to craft compelling and captivating lyrics that strongly resonate with audiences.

These remarks come in the midst of a recent controversy involving Kuami Eugene accusing Mr. Drew of failing to acknowledge him as the writer of Mr. Drew’s latest hit song, ‘Case’.

“Musicians should start to appreciate people who have various talents. There are people who are good producers, there are people who are good composers, and there are people who write good stories.

“I must admit, we need to start employing poets; people who can write or put together beautiful English pieces, then we can get composers to actually produce the melody,” he said.

Kwabena Kwabena used this opportunity to express concerns about the overall quality of songs in Ghana.

He argued that many Ghanaian musicians overlook the importance of songwriting as a craft, a perspective that he believes could hinder the development and quality of songs in the industry.
