IGNORANCE, NO PROPER ORIENTATION CAUSE OF MOVIE INDUSTRY’S CHALLENGES – Socrate Safo

Socrate Safo, a Ghanaian filmmaker and head of the Ghana Classification Board, has explained the reasons behind the film industry’s stagnation.

During a conversation with 3FM, Mr Safo outlined that many new entrants join the field with limited education and understanding of the industry.

He emphasized that having passion alone is insufficient for success in the industry, as a lack of knowledge about the industry has resulted in many challenges and hardships.

Furthermore, Socrate Safo emphasized that the lack of organized direction and instruction is a significant problem.

“It’s not growing as its supposed to be; it’s still facing challenges. From what I have seen, it started with ignorance. We did a whole lot of things out of ignorance. We did a whole lot of things out of ignorance, and it gave us challenges. It brought us on our knees,” he said.

He stressed the importance of industry professionals receiving appropriate orientation about the industry.

“We didn’t understand the industry; most of us came in without proper orientation. We didn’t receive the orientation about the industry; we entered out of passion.

“You had the talent, but nobody sat you down to give you that orientation. ‘We don’t do this because of ABCD. We don’t do this because of ABCD’ – you didn’t get that, nobody ever did,” he added.
