A Plus, also known as Kwame Asare Obeng, has publicly criticized the behaviour of demonstrators in the #ReOccupyJulorbiHouse protest.
The demonstration, which started on Saturday, September 21, 2024, was originally planned as a peaceful protest against significant national concerns like illegal mining (galamsey), socio-economic inequality, joblessness, poverty, and corruption.
Nevertheless, the initially peaceful event escalated into violence as protesters clashed with the Ghana Police Service.
Some demonstrators chose to damage billboards and materials related to political parties close to the 37 Military Hospital intersection, going against police instructions to avoid specific areas.
Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz, he criticized the violent behaviour, stating that protestors have no right to destroy property. “I don’t support nonsense. You cannot stage a protest and end up destroying other people’s property. Burning billboards and engaging in such actions is a step too far. Are you mad? Is this the democracy you talk about?” A Plus remarked.
He urged Ghanaians to avoid participating in the protest, adding, “Let those who wish to take part do so, but I encourage the rest of us not to get involved.”
